Why we created PurposeHat – a new approach to career reinvention

Why we decided to create PurposeHat
One simple reason, but hard to ignore: too many people are “functioning” without actually feeling well anymore.
We didn’t wake up one morning with the idea of starting a career counseling business. PurposeHat came about more as a conclusion we reached after years of conversations that stayed with us.
We spoke with many people who seemed okay. People with experience, with stable jobs, sometimes even with careers others aspired to.
But we were having real conversations. So the same issues kept coming up: a kind of exhaustion that a few days off could not fix and a vague feeling that “this is no longer my place”.
What bothered me the most
I noticed that most people do not have a competence problem. And yet advice is flying at them from every direction.
“Take a course”, “Change companies”, “Rewrite your CV”, “Apply more”.
But very rarely does someone ask:
- what exactly is no longer working?
- what would you want to be different?
- what have you been accepting for years without even realizing it?
That is how people end up making moves that seem logical, but turn out to be wrong. And then they repeat the process.
Why I didn’t trust the classic solutions
Many programs start directly with the market, the role, or the title. But if you skip clarity, every step becomes pointless.
People tend to change their job, their role, or their CV, but not their context or their story. The problem is that this kind of change does not last very long. After a while, you end up again not just stuck, but even more tired and more skeptical.
That is where I felt something was missing.
This is how PurposeHat came to life
PurposeHat was not designed as a program per se. It was designed as a process that first slows you down and only then teaches you how to accelerate.
A space where you do not begin with what the market is looking for, but with who you are right now. With what matters to you and what you no longer want to repeat.
What’s the deal with the hat
Roles are something you wear every day. And if they do not fit you, you feel it in every interaction.
When the hat is not yours, you need to keep adapting and you tend to play a role.
When the hat is yours, everything does not suddenly become easier, but it makes more sense. Your work no longer contradicts who you are, and you grow professionally without even realizing it.
Not every role is wrong, but not every role is right for everyone either.
What I believe (even if it doesn’t look great in motivational posts)
I believe not everyone needs a career reinvention. Sometimes the problem is not the field, but the environment, and other times the healthiest step is closer than you think.
PurposeHat exists to help people make better decisions, not faster ones, to understand before they change, and to choose before they apply.
Why I felt the need to write this publicly
Because I do not want PurposeHat to be for everyone.
And because I know some people reach us after they have already tried the quick solutions.
If you are at a point where you no longer want to jump randomly, but you also do not want to repeat mistakes and you feel that you need clarity, then we probably have something to talk about.
That’s it.
